Abhyanga - Oil Massage
Treat your body right! Soften your skin and eliminate toxins by giving yourself a daily Ayurvedic Abhyanga massage. This traditional Ayurvedic practice nourishes the skin and tissues of the body while removing ama (toxins) from the blood. It also soothes the nerves, promotes rejuvenation and prevents aging, protecting the skin against harsh environmental irritants.
Abhyanga massage does wonders for the look and feel of the skin, reduces fatigue, strengthens circulation and promotes a soft, flexible and attractive body.Another ancient Ayurvedic practice is to massage the head and scalp with oil to prevent hair loss, gray hair, and dandruff, and to promote mental clarity and a sound sleep.
You can use sesame or almond oil for Vata constitution, coconut or olive oil for Pitta and sunflower or grapeseed oil for Kapha. Better yet, try one of West Coast Ayurveda’s specially formulated herbalized dosha oils for your constitution (see below) that includes powerful Ayurvedic healing herbs and a blend of oils specific to your dosha.

Place the bottle of oil in a hot cup of water to heat up the oil before beginning. Perform the massage in a warm room and massage using the whole hand, slowly and evenly. Massage from head to foot. Leave the oil on for at least 15 minutes, or longer, for optimal absorption, before taking a cleansing bath or shower. If you have little time, massage the head (and ears) and feet only.
