Ayurveda is an Ancient System of Healing that dates back thousands of years.Literally translated from Sanskrit, Ayurveda is "The Knowledge of Life." One of the most unique aspects of Ayurveda is that it looks at a person on a truly holistic level, not only considering the physical body. Ayurveda incorporates.Wellness for Mind, Body and Soul.TM These three components of the human system are linked to one another, so all three must be considered when looking at a person’s state of well-being.
At West Coast Ayurveda.We understand that everyone is unique and as a result, we offer lifestyle and wellness counselling that is right for you and your body type in accordance with the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is based on the belief that we all have three Doshas (elemental based energies) which reside in our bodies in varying degrees. When a person is in a healthy state, these doshas are balanced in a natural harmony within our bodies. In order to understand our natural healthy state of being, we must understand our Ayurvedic body type.
There are seven body types according to Ayurveda :
The Three Doshas -
Vata- Predominantly air and ether based;
Pitta- Predominately fire and water based; and
Kapha- Predominately water and earth based.
Most people's body constitutions are not particularly dominated by a single dosha. In fact, most individuals have a double dosha in which two doshas dominate a person's individual body type. These double doshas are known as :
Vata – Pitta
Vata – Kapha
Kapha – Pitta
Lastly, there is a more complex, tri-doshic make up called :
Vata – Pitta – Kapha
It is rare to see a tri-doshic constitution. Keep in mind these people will have a more complicated regime as the chances of the doshas becoming unbalanced is increased as there are three doshas to continually moderate and maintain.
