Eczema, known as Vicharchika in Ayurveda, not only can be embarrassing and unsightly, but uncomfortable as well. It is often accompanied by severe itching and sore skin. In severe cases, there may be bleeding and pus oozing from the affected areas.
According to the tradition of Ayurveda, all types of eczema are due to impairments in the 3 Doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It is more common in Pitta individuals, however, eczema can result in an imbalance in each of the doshic types, so treatment varies depending upon the individual's constitution. Take our Online Quiz to find out your dosha. To reduce the effects of eczema, certain Ayurvedic dietary rules must be followed, such as decreasing salty and sour tasting foods, and increasing bitter tasting foods in one's daily diet.
Psoriasis is usually recognized as an issue or imbalance between the Vata and Kapha doshas, and like eczema, is due to built up ama, or toxins, in the blood. According to Ayurveda, Eczema and Psoriasis can both be relieved by the addition of Turmeric in the diet, or its topical application. Turmeric has a soothing effect on the skin, and is naturally anti-inflammatory. It can be added to the diet internally, and externally applied over the affected skin areas.
