Nasal irrigation with salt water can treat a myriad of problems in the nasal and sinus region including congestion, excess mucous and sinusitis.
Ayurvedic practitioners make use of the neti pot, which you can easily use at home. “Neti” is Sanskrit for “nasal cleansing.” Most of them come with instructions for use and sometimes some free salt packets. You pour the salt solution from the Neti pot into one nostril, and it drains out the other nostril.
One of the main guidelines in Ayurveda is: “Don’t overdo it.” This is true in this case. Short-term nasal cleansing is therapeutic, but long-term use can be harmful, so try it for a week and see the results. For long term use, see your West Coast Ayurvedic practitioner to determine a treatment plan for your own regular nasal cleansing routine.
