In Ayurveda, the eyes are considered to be one of the most important organs in our bodies as they are the connection between the microcosm and macrocosm, from the inner world to the outer, and the mirror to our soul.
According to Ayurveda, Pitta controls the eyes through fire and light. When Pitta dosha is balanced, the eyes appear clear, bright, luminous and eyesight is good. When unbalanced, Pitta causes excess heat and liver problems, along with stress. Poor eyesight is linked to overworked and unbalanced Pitta constitutions.
How to improve eyesight? Eat foods rich in Antioxidants, Vitamin C, and Beta Carotene (Vitamin A). Eat orange and yellow coloured fruits and vegetables, dark leafy greens and foods with high Vitamin C content.
Amla is one of the most valued Ayurvedic herbs, especially for controlling Pitta dosha, and is known as "that which strengthens the eyes."
